Background

Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY) has announced financial assistance for setting up of Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) for promoting Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM). In Maharashtra, Pune District has been declared as a Brownfield cluster.

MCCIA has initiated a Special Purpose Vehicle (MECF), under section 8 (Not for Profit) of the Co. Act 2013, with objective of promoting the development of EMC by setting up a Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Pune.

This CFC will help the electronics industries in Pune and surrounding areas in terms of latest technology, cost competitiveness, faster turnaround time etc. enabling Pune region to become a default destination for electronics design led manufacturing. This will help in developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem, drive innovation and catalyse the economic growth by increasing employment opportunities and tax revenues.

About EMC policy

Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Policy:
The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Policy stands as a crucial framework driving the growth of the electronics manufacturing sector in India. Envisioned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India the EMC Policy aims to create a conducive environment for the development and expansion of Electronics Manufacturing Clusters. These clusters play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration, innovation, and competitiveness within the electronics industry.
About Electronic Policy 2016 :
The objectives outlined in the Electronic Policy 2016 for Maharashtra include positioning the state as a global hub for the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry. The policy aims to achieve a turnover of USD 12 billion by 2020 with an investment of USD 3 billion, creating employment for one lakh people. Additional goals include increasing ESDM sector exports to USD 2 billion, enhancing skilled manpower availability through collaboration with industry stakeholders, promoting Intellectual Property creation in the sector, establishing a specialized governance structure, and adopting best practices for e-waste management as per government directives
